Lara Jackson - Wolfsong Flowers

Lara is a third-year specialty cut flower grower, mother to two young boys, wife to a history teacher, and is a part-time horticulturist employed at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia in Athens. From 2005-2010, Lara studied horticulture at The University of Georgia, studied European gardens abroad, and earned her BS and MS in Horticulture.

In December of 2019, her family broke ground and established Wolfsong Flowers, a home-based semi-urban micro-cut flower farm with approx. 3,000 square feet in annual and perennial production.

She didn’t always know that she wanted to become a home-based flower farmer/florist. She always loved flowers and wanted to have a career growing them but was not sure how to build a zero-debt and profitable home-based operation that could supplement her family income. That changed when she learned there was a hungry local appetite for beautiful, sustainable, and naturally grown flowers. Realizing an opportunity, she dove headfirst into making a life-long dream come true.

In just three years as a flower grower, Lara has built her business plan to reflect a model that is sustainable for raising her family as well as for a healthy work/life balance. Since establishing Wolfsong Flowers, Lara has become an LLC, built a website for retail and subscription sales, sold at markets and festivals, served on a market board, and established a positive relationship with several local florists. She continues to seek knowledge, expand her garden and herself, grow new flowers, hone her skills in floral design including wedding design and event flowers, and build upon her business with additional evergreen Holiday wreaths, and pressed botanical frames, and dried flower wreaths. For Lara, it has been a joy and honor to spread the beauty of locally grown flowers with her broader community.
